The City of Surprise will finally get a hospital when the Cobalt Rehabilitation Hospital of Surprise opens this month. The $17.5-million, 55,000-square-foot facility will also be the first hospital in Arizona to provide the ZeroG® Gait and Balance Training System, a robotic body-weight support system mounted to a motorized trolley that rides along an overhead track. The system by Aretech is designed to allow patients who are paralyzed to practice walking and balance therapy safely and independently.
About 140 specially trained nurses, therapists and other clinicians will treat patients recovering from traumatic and debilitating illness. The hospital will have 40 private rooms — some with living rooms and upscale, hotel-like amenities — of which 12 beds will be dedicated to the treatment of traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and Parkinson’s disease.
