Compassionate Callers offers a new way to check in on loved ones. Founded by Bima Colman this past March, it is a simple calling service dedicated to connecting loved ones and clients of all ages and thus enhancing the well-being and quality of life for its clients. “Our mission is to provide reliable, affordable and compassion support through up to five calls per day, seven days a week,” Colman explains.
To help get the word out that it complements existing caregiver services, Compassionate Callers has been actively engaging with the community, such as attending networking events and hosting educational sessions across the Valley. For instance, non-medical home care services often require clients to meet a minimum weekly hourly commitment. Compassionate Callers offers an affordable monthly subscription that covers the days and times beyond what the home care agency provides.
Services span a wide range of needs. “For individuals in need of regular reminders for medication and meal schedules, encouragement for physical therapy exercises or a true pro-active fall alert, we cater to a diverse array of needs with each client getting their own assessment and care plan which ensures that each call made serves a purpose,” Colman explains. And it addresses needs for older as well as younger populations. Calling it a “lifeline for the elderly, combating the scourge of loneliness,” Colman says, “We go the extra mile by offering a monthly activity kit to engage and enrich their lives to stimulate both their minds and hands. And for busy parents juggling full-time jobs and latchkey kids returning home to an empty house, Compassionate Callers step in to provide reassurance and connection. We call children upon their return home from school and continue to check in throughout the afternoon until their parents return, creating a safer and more connected environment.”
Additionally, Compassionate Callers offers an HR benefit for employers looking to support their full-time employees who are also full-time family caregivers. Colman notes that research has consistently shown that individuals in this dual role face a productivity decline of at least 18%, a number that only escalates with mounting stress at home and work. “We help these employees regain their productivity, reducing stress and improving their overall work-life balance.”
“With a degree and background in Gerontology and over a decade of experience in the field of elderly care, I observed a crucial gap in the continuum of care. Having been part of the sandwich generation myself a few years ago, I felt compelled to address this need, leading to the inception of Compassionate Callers,” Colman explains.
“In my personal journey, I found myself balancing a full-time career, a family with young children and regular visits to my father in a memory care community,” Colman relates. “My father’s early-onset dementia diagnosis in his late 50s and his subsequent passing in his early 60s made me acutely aware of the challenges faced by the sandwich caregivers and their families. I was determined to spare others from the overwhelming stress I experienced during that time.”
Compassionate Callers emerged from this personal experience, aiming to provide much-needed support to individuals who are juggling busy lives, full-time jobs and numerous responsibilities. “Our service steps in to make those crucial calls on their behalf, offering the peace of mind they rightfully deserve,” says Colman. “Our mission is to alleviate the burden and stress of caregiving, ensuring that families can focus on what matters most while we provide essential support.”
