College Launches New Trades Education Center, Skills Benefit Local Economy

Carrington College

Carrington College is proud to announce an entirely new Trades Education Center in Phoenix, which will offer three skilled trade programs including Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance Technology, and Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R).

After years of industry and local market research, each of these three new programs were selected based on the number of benefits they can provide to the local economy. Among all the Carrington College campus locations throughout the Western United States, the Phoenix market proved to have significant potential in leveraging a new Trades Education Center to further build and improve the community.

“We are excited to launch the Trades Education Center as Carrington College is in a unique position to help students build their careers and provide local businesses with a skilled labor force,” said Campus Director, Frank Marranzini. “There is a growing demand for skilled workers and this includes electrical, HVAC and industrial maintenance technicians. These new career-focused programs will expand our services beyond the medical, dental, veterinary and criminal justice fields,” added Marranzini. “We are pleased to support the industrial trades and the same Phoenix community that has supported us for nearly 40 years.”

The Industrial Maintenance Technology program is designed to provide fundamental, hands-on training in industrial systems and equipment. Students will study and master the basic principles, applications, concepts, and functions of hydraulic systems, bearing and seal types, and power transmission components. Practical instruction is provided with industry-standard equipment and software. The program culminates in a certificate of achievement or an associate of science degree (online) in Industrial Maintenance Technology.

The Electrical Technology certificate program is approximately 40 weeks in length or 64 weeks in length (degree) and provides a framework of electrical knowledge and skills that can be adapted in the electrical trade industry. The program prepares students for employment in numerous electrical and related trades. Students will learn to install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment and systems in a safe, competent, and professional manner. The program culminates in a certificate of achievement or an associate of science degree (online) in Electrical Technology.

The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration certificate program is approximately 48 weeks in length or 72 weeks in length (degree) and prepares students to work in the heating and cooling industry. Training focuses on theories of heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning. Students study the operation, maintenance, and repair of residential and commercial equipment. The program culminates in a certificate of achievement or an associate of science degree (online) in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.

The overall employment of HVAC-R mechanics and technicians is projected to grow 13 percent from 2018 to 2028, faster than the average for all occupations, according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook for Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Mechanics and Installers. Commercial and residential building construction is expected to drive the majority of employment growth and job opportunities for technicians, and because HVAC-R systems have become increasingly complex, employers generally prefer applicants with postsecondary education or those who have completed an apprenticeship, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook.

The new Trades Education Center marks a historic milestone for the college and will address the growing demand for skilled trade professionals. Carrington College is committed to student achievement with a skills-based approach to education. With a focus on retention, career services and academic performance, graduates are highly qualified and motivated to enter the workforce.

The communities served by Carrington College benefit from its focus on outcome-based learning and the College’s ability to adapt to its changing needs. Faculty, administrators and staff are committed to helping students develop specific vocational knowledge and skills, as well as achieving the core student learning outcomes in information management, technical literacy and professional development.

Established in 1967, Carrington College empowers students to achieve their goals, find success and make inspiring contributions to our global community. Carrington College offers a diverse range of programs that lead to a Certificate of Achievement or Associate of Science degree. The college offers programs which prepare students for careers in the medical, dental, veterinary, criminal justice and industrial trade fields.
