Barrett-Jackson has launched its semester-long STEM initiative, Gearing Towards the Future presented by Honeywell. In partnership with the SciTech Institute, this community, education and outreach initiative focused on STEM education is designed to serve a leading role in encouraging and developing future automotive engineers and technicians through learning modules focused on teaching students how to solve problems and develop new skills using challenge-based projects.
“Gearing Towards the Future is an outstanding initiative designed to further enhance STEM education opportunities within our communities here in Arizona,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Barrett-Jackson is passionate about ensuring the growth and vibrancy of the collector car hobby and the automotive industry for generations to come, and it’s programs like this that create fun and engaging opportunities for our future community of automotive enthusiasts.”
Gearing Towards the Future kicked off during Barrett-Jackson’s STEM Fest as part of the company’s 2024 Scottsdale Auction in January at WestWorld of Scottsdale. The initiative features three separate contests for elementary, middle and high school students, and their respective learning modules are available online. Submissions for each of the three challenges are due Friday, April 19. Winners will be announced on May 3, and each will receive a $1,000 donation to their school’s STEM program.

The 2024 Gearing Towards the Future challenges include:
- Grades K-5 – Create a Mars Rover that can navigate the Martian terrain – Presented by Arizona SciTech.
- Grades 6-8 – Design and build an Advanced Air Mobility Vehicle – Presented by Honeywell.
- Grades 8-12 – Life cycle analysis, energy engineering and STEM careers in dairy production – Presented by Arizona Milk Producers.
