Intel Corporation, Arizona’s largest technology manufacturer, has unveiled its local progress towards achieving its 2030 companywide goals of responsible, inclusive, and sustainable business practices in its 2023 RISE Report. In the report, Intel outlines the company’s multi-faceted impact on Arizona communities through local purchasing, charitable donations, volunteerism, investments in equity, water restoration, and more. “Intel’s long history of investment in Arizona has supported an ecosystem of innovation driving our state forward,” said Liz Shipley, Public Affairs Director at Intel. “In Arizona, Intel will continue to push the needle on environmental and social issues for ourselves, driven by our 2030 companywide goals.”
Sustainability practices are at the forefront of Intel’s RISE Strategy, as Intel aspires to be a global leader in sustainability while enabling customers and others to reduce their environmental footprint through responsible actions and technology. In 2022, Intel returned and restored more than 100% of Arizona freshwater use to local communities and watersheds, through Intel’s water management practices and project investments.
Another key area of focus in the 2023 RISE Report is the advancement of responsible business practices; Intel aims to further grow Arizona’s economy by continuing its investment in Arizona. In 2022, Intel continued to make great progress on its $20 billion investment to manufacture two new fabs at Intel’s Ocotillo campus. The company also spent more than $2.5 billion with Arizona-based organizations in 2022.
Also highlighted in the report is how Intel is continuing its work to ensure current and future workforces accurately reflect the diverse makeup of Arizona and the country. Intel is working to make careers in technology inclusive and accessible through unique partnerships, such as with Maricopa Community Colleges to continue the semiconductor manufacturing Quick Start program, inspiring a new pipeline of diverse talent into the technical workforce. Intel is also supporting diverse businesses outside of its own organization and achieved its goal to increase annual spending with diverse suppliers to $2 billion worldwide in 2022, eight years early. Its operations in Arizona supported this achievement, having directly spent $223 million with diverse-certified Arizona businesses in 2022.
“Continuing to position Intel as an industry leader in diversity, equity and inclusion through responsible partnerships and business practices is at the cornerstone of our work in Arizona,” added Shipley.
Intel’s final focus is on enabled and accelerating progress through technology and the expertise and passion of Intel employees. Intel believes that the health of our community depends on an increasingly inclusive community of innovators prepared for the jobs of the future. Intel is dedicated to collaborating with others to broaden access to opportunity, support community needs, and inspire the next generation of innovators.
