From the President: Building on What Already Works

by Tish Times, Founder and CEO, Tish Times Sales Agency

I’ve been in rooms full of women business owners for a long time now. And here’s the thing nobody tells you about leadership: Sometimes the boldest move isn’t changing everything. It’s protecting what’s already working.

That’s where I’m starting my year as president of NAWBO Phoenix.

I could tell you about my big new vision, my five-point plan to reinvent the chapter, all the ways I’m going to shake things up. But I won’t. Because Joanna McPherson, Tanaha Hairston and our board have built something real. Money. Members. Mission. That’s not a slogan. That’s the actual strategy holding this chapter together, and it’s working.

My job this year is to steward it. To strengthen it. And to make sure every woman who walks into a NAWBO Phoenix room feels the thing I feel when I walk into one now: Oh, these women actually have my back.

Money. A profitable NAWBO is a powerful NAWBO. Simple as that. We’re going to keep our revenue diverse, our sponsorships strong and our financial house in order, because a chapter that’s stressed about the budget can’t show up fully for its members. You deserve an organization that’s as financially disciplined as you are.

Members. NAWBO was never just a networking group. It’s strategic connection. It’s the phone call you make when a client falls through, and someone in this room has the answer. It’s the referral that lands in your inbox because a woman you met at Wealth Wise Women thought of you first. We’re going to keep deepening those relationships, on purpose, not by accident.

Mission. We’re staying loud on public policy. Woman-owned businesses in Phoenix need a voice at the table when decisions get made, and NAWBO Phoenix has earned a seat there. We’re not giving it up.

And Wealth Wise Women stays our anchor. Real experts, real tools, real conversations about growing your business and building your wealth. Not fluff. Not theory. The stuff you can actually use on Monday morning.

Here’s what I want you to know if you’re new to this chapter, or if you’ve been here for years and are wondering what’s next: The only thing that’s changing is how deeply we lean into it.

Our sisterhood is our superpower. I didn’t come up with that line, but I believe it all the way down. When women support women, businesses grow. Communities thrive. And this chapter keeps proving it.

I’m honored to lead this next chapter of NAWBO Phoenix. I’m not here to reinvent the wheel. I’m here to make sure it keeps turning, and turning stronger, for every woman who’s counting on this room to show up for her the way it showed up for me.

Let’s build.
