Manufacturing this technology at scale in the United States is a responsibility we take seriously at Dexcom. Our journey in Arizona started in 2018 with a 10,000-square-foot facility and has grown to a 500,000-square-foot facility that serves as one of two key manufacturing facilities supporting Dexcom’s global growth.
The region’s advanced manufacturing base, engineering talent pool and presence of institutions like Arizona State University create a foundation that supports medtech manufacturing demands. That concentration of skilled professionals gives companies like Dexcom access to the talent we need to build world-class products right here at home.
Synergy in the Ecosystem
The medtech and bioscience ecosystem is also one of the strongest in the country. According to AZBio, Arizona leads the nation in bioscience job growth, with more than 3,000 bioscience companies generating $44 billion in economic impact and more than 40,000 jobs statewide. Those numbers tell a story of deliberate, sustained investment that started with the 2002 Bioscience Roadmap and has only accelerated since. Dexcom’s own expansion — from 300 to 2,000 employees in just six years — is a microcosm of that growth.
For Dexcom, being embedded in this ecosystem matters because we are surrounded by organizations addressing adjacent and complementary challenges in healthcare. As a board member of the Partnership for Economic Innovation (PEI), I have a first-hand view into the broader ecosystem, including how the Applied Research Centers fund is accelerating the next generation of medtech innovators. Arizona-grown startups like HemaSense, Senphonix and Gravitrex, alongside established institutions like Barrow Neurological Institute, Mayo Clinic and Arizona State University, are all advancing technologies with real clinical applications. The pipeline is real, and it is growing.

That synergy is not incidental — it is intentional. When a medical device company, a research hospital, a university, a medtech startup and a venture investor are all working and partnering in the same geography, the pace of innovation accelerates.
