The future of minimally invasive care is being shaped in Tempe, Arizona. While BD’s global purpose is to advance the world of healthTM, that mission comes to life through the work of local teams whose innovations help millions of clinicians care for billions of patients around the globe. An essential component of that effort is BD Peripheral Intervention (BD PI), a $2-billion business unit headquartered at Tempe’s I.D.E.A. Campus.
For decades, BD has maintained a strong presence in Arizona. Today, more than 725 associates in the state contribute across engineering, manufacturing, research and development, quality, supply chain and business operations, helping support a global Peripheral Intervention organization of more than 1,000 associates.
The work taking place in Tempe has a direct impact on patients in more than 190 countries around the world. BD PI teams help develop, manufacture and support technologies used by physicians to treat peripheral artery disease, venous disease, pulmonary embolism and cancer. In 2026, BD PI launched the EnCor EnCompass™ Breast Biopsy and Tissue Removal System, expanding its portfolio of minimally invasive technologies designed to help clinicians improve care, including in women’s health.
Our Tempe campus serves as a global center of excellence within BD. Associates here collaborate with colleagues around the world to bring new technologies to market and advance the next generation of minimally invasive therapies. The site also provides high-quality careers across engineering, manufacturing, clinical affairs, regulatory affairs, quality, operations and commercial functions, contributing to Arizona’s growing life sciences workforce.
Synergy in the Ecosystem
Working in Tempe, I have had the privilege of watching both BD Peripheral Intervention and the Greater Phoenix bioscience community grow together. What continues to inspire me is the talent and dedication of the people who call this region home. Each time I walk through our campus, I see engineers, technicians, quality experts, commercial teams and many others working toward the same purpose: helping clinicians improve the standard of care for patients around the world. That connection between purpose, innovation and community is one of the reasons I am proud to live and work in Arizona.
Our success is closely tied to the strength of the Greater Phoenix bioscience ecosystem. Arizona offers access to a highly skilled workforce, leading educational institutions such as Arizona State University, and a culture of innovation that encourages collaboration among industry, healthcare providers, researchers and entrepreneurs.
That spirit extends beyond business. BD PI associates support organizations focused on heart health, cancer, kidney disease and local needs, including the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, National Kidney Foundation and United Way. Our contributions have also been recognized through honors that include Arizona BioScience Company of the Year and the Tempe Chamber’s Large Business Excellence Award.

From my perspective, Greater Phoenix has become one of the country’s most exciting healthcare innovation hubs. The bioscience sector is creating high-value jobs, attracting investment and helping diversify Arizona’s economy while positioning the region as a destination for both established healthcare companies and emerging innovators.
