Expansion is national in scale and deeply local in impact

Pickleball may be America’s fastest‑growing sport, but behind the surge is a national organization intent on ensuring that growth strengthens communities as much as it fills courts. USA Pickleball, the national governing body for the sport headquartered in Scottsdale, has come a long way since its founding in 1984. What began as a small, volunteer‑driven effort has evolved into a national institution supporting millions of players, establishing competitive pathways and shaping the sport’s future. Yet, some of its most meaningful work is happening far from tournament venues through its charitable arm, USA Pickleball Serves.

At the center of this work is a belief that pickleball’s simplicity and social nature make it uniquely positioned to bring people together. “Pickleball has an incredible ability to bring people together,” says Mike Nealy, CEO of USA Pickleball. “Through USA Pickleball Serves, we’re ensuring that the growth of our sport creates lasting impact in communities across the country by expanding access, supporting youth development and fostering meaningful connections through play.” That philosophy guides a broad portfolio of initiatives designed to reach individuals and communities who may not otherwise have access to the sport.

USA Pickleball Serves focuses on four core pillars: youth development, community court access, adaptive and wheelchair programming, and inclusion for underserved populations. These priorities reflect a commitment to ensuring that pickleball’s rapid expansion benefits communities equitably. As the sport grew at an unprecedented pace, the organization recognized both an opportunity and a responsibility. Leaders saw firsthand how pickleball was creating social bridges across generations, backgrounds and abilities. That realization led to the formal launch of USA Pickleball Serves, a platform built to ensure the sport’s growth translates into meaningful community outcomes.

Those outcomes are visible across the country. Through its Play It Forward Grant Program, USA Pickleball Serves funds community court development and infrastructure projects, investments that create permanent, accessible spaces for residents to gather, exercise and connect. Its Grow the Game Grant Program provides equipment bundles to schools, nonprofits and community organizations introducing pickleball for the first time. The scale of impact is significant: More than 969,000 individuals reached; more than 315,000 youth served; and tens of thousands of paddles, nets and balls donated. At this halfway point of 2026, the organization has awarded 99 grants across 38 states, supporting programs that have touched more than 333,000 people.

One of the most notable recent efforts is a national partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Backed by an initial $100,000 investment, the collaboration will introduce pickleball to tens of thousands of young people through equipment donations, curriculum support and court development. For many youth, this will be their first exposure to the sport, and to the sense of belonging it fosters. The partnership reflects USA Pickleball’s commitment to expanding access and creating pathways for lifelong physical activity.

Adaptive and wheelchair pickleball is another area of growing emphasis. USA Pickleball Serves supports national programming, competitive opportunities and the USA Pickleball Wheelchair National Championships, ensuring that athletes of all abilities have opportunities to play and compete. The organization also hosts Learn to Play clinics nationwide, introducing the fundamentals of the sport to individuals who may not otherwise have access. These clinics are intentionally designed to be welcoming entry points, helping communities build confidence, connection and momentum around the sport.

Volunteerism is a defining feature of USA Pickleball’s community engagement model. While staff regularly participate in youth clinics, charitable events and outreach programs, the organization’s ambassador network is its most powerful grassroots engine. Ambassadors across the country introduce new players to the sport, organize local events and support community growth initiatives. Their work ensures that pickleball’s expansion is not just national in scale but deeply local in impact.

Each April, USA Pickleball leads National Pickleball Month, a nationwide celebration that activates hundreds of community events. These gatherings introduce new players to the sport, strengthen local engagement and highlight the role pickleball can play in building healthier, more connected communities.

For USA Pickleball, the future of the sport is inseparable from the future of community well‑being. The organization’s leadership is clear that pickleball’s true power lies not only in its accessibility or its popularity, but in its ability to create shared experiences. In a moment when communities across the country are seeking ways to rebuild connection, USA Pickleball is proving that a paddle, a ball and a welcoming court can be powerful tools for social impact. Through USA Pickleball Serves, the organization is ensuring that the sport’s growth fuels something larger: a movement rooted in access, belonging and the simple joy of play.
