Tolleson Union High School District broke ground on its new 90,000-square-foot Training & Learning Center, located along 99th Avenue, North of Camelback Road. With DLR Group as the architect, supported by Root Architects, and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. as the general contractor, the facility will serve as a hub for the district’s 780 educators and residents within the District’s West Valley community.

Expected to complete in Spring 2027, the facility will boast multiple large training rooms as well as an outdoor terrace for use in teacher and administrator trainings, community meetings, and large-scale gatherings. In addition, TLC will provide office and administrative space for key district departments, such as information technology and human resources. With TLC supporting District expansion, Tolleson plans to maintain operations and school board meetings at its current office on 99th Avenue and Van Buren Street.

“We are very excited about adding a new Training and Learning Center in Glendale, Arizona,” said Superintendent Jeremy Calles. “This new facility will allow professional development opportunities for our staff so that they can better serve our students in the classroom. We are also very excited about the addition of our brand-new Family Resource Center that will be built into this facility. We will be able to offer a variety of services to our families and connect them with partners to help them with whatever they may need, including connecting with social services and outside agencies that can provide assistance. Additionally, this facility will provide space for our Distance Learning Academy staff and house several of our departments.”

Beyond facilitating training opportunities, TLC will expand the district’s community services through its Family Resource Center, a public-facing portion of the facility. Programs such as food and clothing assistance, medical and legal support, and access to computers will help serve West Valley families well beyond the education the district provides to its students.

TLC is designed with state-of-the-art finishes and collaborative gathering spaces to create a modern facility that invokes a sense of pride and innovation throughout the district. Teachers will have access to support spaces to help facilitate unique educational programs with students and their parents.

“This Training & Learning Center is more than a gathering space,” said McCarthy project director Paul Kubik. “It represents a culture of community at the heart of Tolleson’s approach to supporting its educators and local families. We feel very fortunate to assist the district, DLR Group, and Root Architects in creating a space that fosters collaboration between its schools and develops partnerships with local residents.”

With the district’s construction of a new 2,400-student high school, set to open in Summer 2027, TLC will serve as an integral space for planning educational programs, onboarding new educators, and supporting the growing TUHSD community.
