The Power of Small Business

by Debbie Hann

Each year, the Business Resources Guide offers a timely reminder of the critical role small businesses play in shaping Arizona’s economy and communities. These businesses are more than just a part of the economy; they are innovators, job creators and neighborhood anchors that bring energy and opportunity to every corner of our state.

Arizona’s small businesses make up more than 99% of all businesses in the state and employ nearly half of our private-sector workforce. They’re responsible for two-thirds of new jobs and are often the first to respond to local needs. From main-street shops to fast-growing startups, small businesses reflect the ingenuity and determination that define our state’s entrepreneurial spirit.

Their power lies not only in economic output but in their adaptability and impact. Small business owners face challenges head-on, whether it’s accessing capital, navigating supply chains or building a skilled workforce, and they do so with grit, creativity and heart. They show us what’s possible when ideas are supported and opportunities are shared.

This guide shines a light on that spirit, featuring the people and organizations working every day to help small businesses grow and thrive. The services and solutions listed here support business owners at every stage, providing a foundation of knowledge, mentorship and community that makes long-term success possible.

At the Arizona Small Business Association, we’ve made it a priority to reach businesses where they are, both in their journey and geographically. One way we’re doing that is through SCALE (Strategic Coaching for Advancing Local Entrepreneurs), our new program in partnership with the Arizona Commerce Authority. Through statewide educational roadshows and immersive coaching opportunities, SCALE is helping entrepreneurs in rural and underserved communities build stronger, more resilient businesses. It’s about expanding access, lifting local talent and creating lasting impact.

As you explore this year’s guide, I hope you’re inspired by the innovation, perseverance and partnership that define Arizona’s small business community. Whether you’re just starting out or scaling for growth, the tools and connections you need are within reach.

Because when small businesses succeed, Arizona succeeds.
