Spectrum Medical Care Center, a provider of healthcare services for Phoenix’s LGBTQ+ community, announced the appointment of Mark Moeremans as its new Chief Executive Officer. A dedicated advocate for advancing inclusive healthcare and health equity, Moeremans brings a sharp business expertise paired with a community-based leadership approach to help guide the organization’s next chapter.

Drawing on more than a decade of cross-functional business experience, Moeremans is poised to help drive Spectrum’s goals of delivering more services to more members of the LGBTQ+ community while working to ensure that Phoenix reaches its “Fast-Track City” goals towards ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 through increased support of existing HIV-related programs and resources.

I am very excited to welcome Mark to Spectrum Medical at such an important time for our community and the various challenges we are facing,” said Dr. Thanes Vanig, the founder of Spectrum Medical and the recent recipient of the Legacy Award from Aunt Rita’s Foundation. “He joins us at a transformative time in healthcare, and his vision will help strengthen our role as a leader in providing affirming, inclusive care to all members of our community.

As CEO, Moeremans will oversee the clinic’s operations and community outreach while guiding strategic growth to further its mission of providing high-quality primary and specialty care for LGBTQ+ individuals, their families, and those living with HIV.

“I am inspired by our mission to promote and improve the health and wellness of Phoenix’s LGBTQ+ community and those living with HIV,” said Moeremans. “Our commitment to delivering high-quality, inclusive care, while carrying forward a legacy of compassion and protection for our community is a responsibility that I am deeply honored to uphold.”

Moeremans will also help Phoenix in achieving its fast-track city designation for HIV reduction—a designation awarded to cities that commit to significantly reducing new HIV infections through targeted efforts. Spectrum will play a crucial role by expanding access to prevention, testing, and treatment services, working collaboratively with community partners, and leveraging innovative strategies to help Phoenix reach this ambitious milestone and improve public health outcomes.

A graduate of Boston College, Moeremans also earned an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. His career has spanned across a diverse range of business experience including venture capital and entrepreneurship, private equity, and economic development. Moeremans also ran for Phoenix City Council in District 6 in the 2022 local election.

Most recently, he served as managing director at The Journey Venture Studio, a mission-driven startup incubator where he helped underrepresented entrepreneurs launch innovative digital health startups. Prickly Pear, a tool promoting women’s brain health, was one of the companies to emerge from the studio and was recently named an awardee of the prestigious Arizona Innovation Challenge. Previously, as senior vice president of entrepreneurship and venture development at the Arizona Commerce Authority, he oversaw a number of flagship programs, including the Venture Ready Accelerator, helping position Arizona as a premier destination for startups and entrepreneurs.

Moeremans will leverage this experience to ensure that Spectrum Medical Care Center has a robust foundation for growth. “My goal is to create a best-in-class organization where both patients and employees feel proud to call Spectrum home, and make it clear that we provide comprehensive care for the full spectrum of gender and sexual identities,” he said. “Our patients have lived experiences and medical histories that are unique, and I want every interaction to reflect how we can deliver care that is more relevant and responsive to those we serve.”
