The Scottsdale group of 100+ Women Who Care Valley of the Sun donated $10,270 to Family Promise of Greater Phoenix, a nonprofit organization that works with families experiencing homelessness including their pets and helps them return to independence.

100+ Women Who Care Valley of the Sun is a philanthropic group of 100+ women who come together quarterly to create an immediate and positive impact on the community. Their members nominate local charities to collectively support, and three charities are presented at each giving circle. Members then vote and the charity with the most votes is that quarter’s recipient, with members donating $100 each to the selected charity to collectively raise $10,000 or more for the organization.

Family Promise of Greater Phoenix was nominated by Lisa Randall and selected as this quarter’s charity recipient at the Scottdale group’s virtual giving circle on October 28, 2020.

“Our group of women was inspired by Family Promise’s dedication to families and children experiencing homelessness, especially during these challenging times prompted by the coronavirus pandemic and economic crisis,” said Kim Tarnopolski, Chief Community Builder for 100+ Women Who Care Valley of the Sun. “We’ve continued to hold our giving circles virtually through the pandemic because we know organizations like Family Promise really need this kind of support to continue serving the homeless population.”

Family Promise says they will use the 100+ Women Who Care donation towards their Social Work team, which provides case management and care to parents and children in the Family Promise program.

“This donation will allow us to better serve more families who are working with our Social Work team, whether they need to secure documentation, access employment services, receive supplemental food, or other basic needs to help families get back on their feet and secure a roof over their head,” said Ted Taylor, Executive Director for Family Promise of Greater Phoenix. “Families across the Valley are in need of our services, and we’re grateful to the Scottsdale group of 100+ Women Who Care for helping us deliver those services.”

Since the beginning of the year, Family Promise of Greater Phoenix has rescued more than 100 families from their program into independent housing and self-sufficiency and has also assisted 15 families to stay out of the shelter system through their preventative programming. 100+ Women Who Care in the Valley of the Sun is all about sharing a simple concept of coming together as a collective community to make an immediate, direct and positive impact in giving locally.  Membership in the chapter involves attending four, one-hour giving circles a year with the sole purpose of supporting the wonderful work our local non-profit organizations do by providing funding, exposure, and awareness.  The chapter has three sister groups who meet quarterly in Ahwatukee, Scottsdale and the East Valley.

Family Promise envisions a nation in which every family has a home, a livelihood, and the chance to build a better future. Family Promise of Greater Phoenix rescues primarily first-time homeless families from the streets and provides emergency shelter and basic needs in a sixty-day program designed to assist their return to self-sufficiency. Their shelter includes a sanctuary for the family pet, the first such program in Arizona.
