The Salvation Army has stepped up to ensure Arizona families negatively impacted by COVID-19 receive critical support through emergency food for seniors and families in need; rent and utilities assistance; PPE, sanitizing products and hygiene kits; toys for kids; and emotional and spiritual support. In fact, The Salvation Army expects to serve 155 percent more people nationwide this holiday season. Cox, a long-time partner, is lending a hand announcing today a $150,000 donation from the James Cox Foundation to The Salvation Army to help rescue Christmas in Phoenix, Tucson, Sierra Vista and Douglas.  Cox employees see the work of The Salvation Army in our community firsthand.  Shawn Duncan, who leads the Cox team of more than 1,000 field technicians in Arizona, also serves on The Salvation Army Metro Phoenix Advisory Board.  In addition to the financial support, Cox employees have donated food, toys, family puzzles and board games to help fill The Salvation Army’s shelves this holiday season.

“The Salvation Army is a lifeline and Cox wants to do its part to make sure that struggling Arizona families have a hot meal, a safe place to stay, financial assistance and toys for the holidays this year,” said Shawn Duncan, Southwest Region Vice President of Field & Maintenance Operations, Cox Communications.  “I have had the honor to see amazing support to those in our community made possible by the committed Salvation Army team.”

In addition, today Cox dropped off 6 pallets of toys donated by Cox employees and recently provided The Salvation Army a wide assortment of perishable food items to ensure that those relying on a hot meal will have what they need. The perishables come from the Cox employee café located at the Cox employee campus, and include bakery items, vegetables, fruit, dairy items, potato products and meat items, along with condiments.

“Families throughout Arizona have faced unprecedented need this year, and our partners, including Cox, are vital to ensuring that The Salvation Army has the resources we need to stand steadfast in our commitment to serve our most vulnerable neighbors,” said Lt. Colonel Kelly Pontsler, Commander of The Salvation Army Southwest Division.
