Scottsdale Arts Is Wrapping Up the Season with Eclectic Concerts, Movement Art and More

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is wrapping up its 2022–23 season with a string of must-see performances filled with captivating music, mesmerizing dance works and stunning visuals.

From April to June, the center is packed with a variety of entertaining and awe-inspiring shows — from living art experiences that incorporate projection mapping to multiple genres of Grammy®-winning artists — showcasing the best of what the performing arts have to offer. Whether you are a fan of comedy, dance or music, the center has selections for everyone to enjoy.

Below is the schedule of concerts and other performances at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts from April through June (subject to change):

APRIL 2023

The ARTrageous Gala: Bloom
Saturday, April 1, 2023, 6:30 p.m.

A one-night, ultra-sensory celebration blooming with radiant living art experiences and fantastical creations within the newly renovated Scottsdale Civic Center. With a red-carpet arrival, silent and live auction, coursed meal, dessert bar and performances by Quixotic and Walter Productions, guests will be reminded of how the arts ignite their soul while enjoying dazzling new art, cutting-edge experiences and stunning performers.

Fran Lebowitz
Friday, April 7, 2023, 8 p.m.

Purveyor of urban cool, Fran Lebowitz is a cultural satirist whose essays and interviews offer her acerbic views on current events and the media. In a cultural landscape filled with endless pundits and talking heads, Lebowitz stands out as one of our most insightful social commentators.

Sippin’ Series: Cristalino Tequilas
Saturday, April 8, 2023, 7 p.m.

Sample and learn about this style of tequila that is gaining traction and popularity. The Sippin’ Series is an intimate deep dive into the world of cocktails, wines and spirits.

Van Cliburn Gold Medalist
Friday, April 14, 2023, 8 p.m.
Virginia G. Piper Concert Series

Yunchan Lim has been taking home major awards from prominent piano competitions since 2018, when he was only 14 years old, and now he’s the 2022 Van Cliburn Gold Medalist. Widely considered one of the preeminent international music contests, the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition exists to share excellent classical music with the largest international audience possible and to launch the careers of its winners every four years.

The Wood Brothers
Tuesday, April 11, 2023, 7:30 p.m.

Grammy®-nominated for Best Americana Album and dubbed “masters of soulful folk” by Paste, The Wood Brothers are known for their singularly eclectic and electrifying performance style that has earned them devoted legions of fans around the world.

Arizona Trolley Dances
April 14, 2023, 4 p.m., 5 p.m. 6 p.m., 7 p.m.
April 15, 2023, 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m.

A series of site-specific dance performances are presented in various locations around Old Town Scottsdale, reveling in the artistry of movement and a sense of place. Public art features prominently at many of the performance locations.

Vieux Farka Touré
Friday, April 21, 2023, 8 p.m.

The “Hendrix of the Sahara,” eminent Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Touré dazzles crowds with speed and dexterity, as well as his palpable charisma and luminous smile.

An Evening with Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives
Friday, April 28, 2023, 8 p.m.

Marty Stuart, the Grammy®-winning singer, songwriter and musician, is living, breathing country-music history. Stuart has played alongside the masters, from Johnny Cash to Lester Flatt, and has been a worldwide ambassador for Nashville, Bakersfield and points in between.

Les Violons du Roy | Jonathan Cohen, Music Director | Inon Barnatan, piano

Virginia G. Piper Concert Series

The chamber orchestra Les Violons du Roy is joined by celebrated pianist Inon Barnatan for a night of “atmospheric effects” (The Washington Post) and breathtaking cinematics.

Joshua Redman 3×3
Thursday, May 4, 2023, 7:30 p.m.

Joshua Redman’s latest project is a celebration of the power of three — the music of three iconic jazz composers (Ellington, Monk and Shorter) interpreted in the classic trio format of saxophone, bass and drums.

Scottsdale Philharmonic
Sunday, May 7, 2023, 4 p.m.

The Scottsdale Philharmonic performs a program that includes Ravel’s “Tzigane Jonathan O;” Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture; Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody no. 15, Rákóczi March; and Anton Arinsky’s Symphony no. 1.

Christian McBride’s New Jawn
Friday, May 12, 2023, 8 p.m.

Christian McBride, an eight-time Grammy®-winning jazz bassist, composer and bandleader, is a luminary with one hand ever-reaching for new heights and the other extended in fellowship — and perhaps the hint of a challenge — inviting us to join him.

Rodrigo y Gabriela
Supporting Act: Krooked Kings

Grammy®-winning duo Rodrigo y Gabriela grew up on an eclectic mix of classic rock, heavy metal and flamenco, a rare alchemy of influences that still informs their work today. The supporting act is Krooked Kings.
