Phoenix College is excited to join ranks with Arizona State University and the University of Arizona as it opens its first downtown Phoenix location. The grand opening will take place on Sept. 18, 2020 from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in a virtual format open to the community for live streaming.
The virtual grand opening of the Phoenix College IT Institute will include remarks from City of Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego and Phoenix College President Dr. Larry Johnson. There will also be a virtual tour of the facility. These plans will replace the live ribbon-cutting grand opening celebration on campus in order to adhere to social-distancing guidelines.
“The IT Institute will support more than 30 certificate and degree programs in eleven different program areas that will meet workforce needs,” says Maria Reyes, Phoenix College Dean of Industry & Public Service. “This will be a place where new, continuing, or returning students can develop the IT skills they seek to be readily employable.”
Phoenix College’s IT Institute will provide an environment conducive to collaboration among similar programs of study and certificates in the following program areas: A+ Certification, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Desktop Support, Linux Administration, Mobile App Development, Networking, Programming and System Analysis, Virtualization, Web Development and Design, and Windows Server Administration.
The downtown campus will serve as a collaborative space for all students in these programs. Once it’s safe to do so, in-person downtown classes will be offered during the day, evening, and weekend. The school will also offer flexible formats, such as hybrid or online classes moving forward. The site will also serve as a convening location for workshops, industry advisory groups, meetups, and networking functions.
“Phoenix College takes great pride in serving our diverse student body. Go Far Close to Home, isn’t just a tagline, it’s our commitment to our students. As an institution that has served the Phoenix community for more than 100 years, we are elated to provide students access to educational and workforce opportunities that reflect an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit,” says Dr. Larry Johnson, President of Phoenix College. “The Phoenix College IT Institute is just one example of how we are making an impact and leaving an indelible mark on the Phoenix community.”
The new site, located at 640 N. 1st Ave. Phoenix, Ariz. will open virtually this September with a variety of IT offerings. Those interested in enrollment and registration should contact the Phoenix College One-Stop at 602-285-7777 for more information.
