Interiorscapes as Capital Expenditure

by Mike Hunter

Businesses can incorporate greenery such as plants and moss walls for their worksites as capital expenditures. Admitting it’s unconventional, Plant Solutions founding principal Joe Zazzera says, “The use of the budgeting tool is a great way to integrate plants and their benefits into an office environment as we all look for ways to make our employees happy, feel safe and healthy.” Zazzera’s Scottsdale-based company has been providing design and installation services, ongoing horticultural service, MossWallArt™, plant rentals and living plant walls to Valley businesses since 1981.

Capital expenditure budget is a formal plan that states the amounts and timing of fixed asset purchases by an organization. The wide array of expenditures that qualify include upgrades to existing assets, the construction of new facilities, and equipment required for new hires and business expansion or contraction – among which, Zazzera points out, the services of plant solutions fit.

The implementation of large-scale interiorscapes and living plants falls into the category of construction projects, and facility operators can capture the ability to save money on construction projects before they start by providing pre-construction services as well as capital expenditure, budgeting strategies.
