Workforce Services Growth

Workforce-Services-GrowthRelocating its corporate headquarters from San Jose to Phoenix, Matrix Absence Management has expanded its Phoenix operations — which includes the company’s national call center — to a 65,000-square-foot facility in a building that allows for expected further growth. Matrix occupies the top two floors of the three-story building, and has first rights to take on space on the 30,000-square-foot first floor.

Matrix helps employers proactively manage workers’ compensation, short- and long-term disability, return-to-work services, and personal and medical leave programs. It is also the administrator and claims processing platform for large-case integrated-disability clients for sister company Reliance Standard Life Insurance Company. It has had a presence in the Valley for about 10 years. “It’s a great market for talent in the space we operate in,” says company president Kenneth Cope. He cites the large bilingual work force available as well as tenured talent for clinician and adjustor positions. “We use registered nurses in the claims process, and there is a large number here — and a retiree population who want to work more in an office environment as they ramp down their careers.”

Another advantage Cope credits to Phoenix: “It’s a fantastic location for clients to visit year-round — [it has] no weather interruptions.”
