St. Joseph the Worker (SJW) is pleased to announce the addition of Rick DeBruhl to the Board of Directors. An award-winning network television broadcaster with a master’s degree in media management, DeBruhl brings over 30 years of communication expertise to the table. His addition to the board and his commitment to the SJW mission will be a valuable asset, as the nonprofit continues to carry forth its mission to help disadvantaged or displaced individuals in Arizona become self-sufficient through quality employment.
For over 30 years, SJW has been the conduit to connect Valley job seekers to jobs, connecting more individuals to employment than any other employment agency in Maricopa County. Now, their mission is more important than ever to individuals, families and the economy.
“Rick has been connected to St. Joseph the Worker for more than a decade, and the timing of his addition to the board could not have been better,” said Brent Downs, St. Joseph the Worker Executive Director. “We know Rick will be instrumental in helping SJW thrive, especially now as we help the community come out of this Coronavirus pandemic strong, financially-sound and firmly employed.”
DeBruhl spent 31 years at the NBC affiliate in Phoenix as an anchor and reporter. During that time, he covered everything from politics to the environment to sports. His tenure there also included managing the station’s Call 12 For Action consumer advocacy team. His numerous awards include three Emmys, the American Women in Television and Radio Best Reporter award.
“Working as a journalist here in Arizona for more than three decades, I’ve interviewed people who were homeless or living on the edge of poverty all because they lacked a paycheck. While covering their stories helped show the impact of joblessness, I wanted the opportunity to do more,” said DeBruhl. “Joining the board of St. Joseph the Worker puts me in a position to have a direct impact on people’s lives. It allows me to move beyond the world of reporting and into a world of action.”
