South Phoenix Village Wins the Department of Energy’s Housing Innovation Award for Energy Efficiency

Mandalay Homes | Aug. 22, 2018

(Phoenix, Ariz.) – Mandalay Homes in partnership with FSL Real Estate Services (FSL) and the City of Phoenix are proud to announce they have won the U.S. Department of Energy’s Housing Innovation award for 2018 in the “Affordable” category. The award was given for their submission of the infill project at South Phoenix Village, a partnership with FSL and the city of Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department. This category was very competitive in 2018, as in previous years, making this an even more significant accomplishment for the builder.

South Phoenix Village is a thoughtful project designed to provide quality, energy-efficient housing, promote successful diverse homeownership and to create a vibrant and healthy community. Mandalay Homes set out to improve that condition by building homes that use significantly less energy, which is constantly rising in price. Geoff Ferrell – Chief Technology Officer for Mandalay Homes says that these infill homes are a great application of their energy efficient building style. “We’re proud to be building energy efficient homes for this community where the cost of ownership can be effected by the cost of electricity. Not only are we selling them a great product, but it’s important to us to bring sustainable, meaningful home building to an established part of Phoenix where it’s being very well received,” Ferrell said.

Steve Hastings, Chief of Real Estate at FSL, counts the South Phoenix Village Project as one of the best he’s been a part of. “It has been a wonderful opportunity to serve the community of South Phoenix by developing affordable, energy-efficient homes with the help and support of our project partners. We’re honored to be recognized by the Department of Energy for our efforts,” said Hastings.

The South Phoenix Village floor plans designed by architect Krista Schwartz, also Single Family Director at FSL, range from 1,300 to 1,700 square feet and range in price from $190,000 to $215,000. Adding to the affordability, they all come with $15,000 in home buyer assistance in the form of a zero percent interest deferred loan for qualified home buyers.
