Phoenix In-Home Medical Care helps Prevent Overcrowding at Hospitals

Dispatch Health | March 30, 2020

DispatchHealth is redefining health care delivery to offer on-demand acute care and advanced medical care for people of all ages in the comfort of their own home. DispatchHealth’s emergency trained medical teams are equipped with tools and protective equipment necessary to treat common to complex injuries and illnesses. DispatchHealth works closely with payers, providers, health systems and others to deliver care in the home to reduce unnecessary emergency room visits, as well as hospital stays and readmissions. A visit with DispatchHealth typically costs the same as an urgent care visit.  Acute care medical teams are available during the day and also on weekends, evenings and holidays, and can be requested via app, online or a quick phone call.

DispatchHealth is working to prevent overcrowding at Emergency Rooms and other health care facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic, by delivering on-demand, high-acuity, in-home medical care. DispatchHealth’s model is uniquely positioned to help treat an extensive range of common to complex injuries and illnesses, including but not limited to:

  • Dehydration
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Falls
  • Minor injuries, including cuts (lacerations) and sprains
  • And more

At this time, DispatchHealth cannot test COVID-19 as priority has been given to hospitals. If someone is experiencing respiratory symptoms, they can request care and be assessed to recover at home. As long as teams have appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), they will visit, evaluate, and ensure patients with respiratory symptoms recover at home or escalate to a higher level of care if needed.

DispatchHealth’s medical teams wear appropriate PPE during all visits, including masks, booties and gloves. For patients with respiratory symptoms, medical teams will be gowned and patients will be provided with  a mask to wear. Additionally, kits and devices are sanitized during and between visits.

As hospitals and health systems become overwhelmed with patients, DispatchHealth’s goal is to keep the most vulnerable patients home and out of crowded environments. DispatchHealth’s model is also uniquely positioned for high needs patients, including: those who are over the age of 65, have chronic conditions, are immunocompromised and/or have physical limitations.
