Matrix Absence Management Names Marti Cardi Product Compliance Lead

Matrix Absence Management March 4, 2015

Matrix Absence Managemecardint (Matrix) has named Marti Cardi, Esq. its vice president of Product Compliance, reporting directly to Matrix President Ken Cope.

In her new role, Cardi is responsible for development, deployment and refinement of Matrix’s employer service offerings, including both core products (integrated disability management, FMLA/leave of absence, and workers’ compensation administration) and expansion products such as ADA Advantage®, the comprehensive ADA management tool launched last year. A recognized subject matter expert, she will also be responsible for a wide range of client- and market-facing content and commentary relating to absence, compliance and employer best practices.

A nationally known speaker, author and employment law specialist, Cardi was most recently vice president and chief compliance officer for the Reed Group, a national absence management firm. She has presented extensively on topics related to absence management and disability law in business during a career spanning more than 30 years.

“Anyone who has spent any significant time in the absence management field is aware of Marti and her work,” Cope said. “She’s a top-tier resource in our market space, knowledgeable and credible. We’re excited to welcome her to Matrix and look forward to her leadership.”

Based on the premise that employees make up the most costly – and valuable – of a company’s resources, Matrix focuses on reducing the lost productivity suffered when employees miss work for any reason. The flagship service platform, called Absence Solutions®, streamlines benefit delivery, simplifies administration and reduces overall benefit costs for companies nationwide employing more than 2 million men and women.

Matrix integrates workers’ compensation, short- and long-term disability, return-to-work services, and personal/family and medical leave programs to help employers realize time, efficiency and productivity gains. An early technology leader in the absence management space, Matrix was among the first to allow telephonic claim intake for virtually any type of employee absence; pioneered secure online claim intake; and offers the industry’s most functionally robust mobile application.

“Matrix has always been an innovator in this field,” Cardi said. “As a cultural mandate, they’ve maintained close, collaborative relationships with their clients and, together, they’ve been significant drivers of product development, service improvement and technology solutions.”

The timing couldn’t have been better, she said. “One of the complaints we hear most often is how complex the regulatory landscape is, and how change is everpresent. One proven differentiator at Matrix is their agility, their demonstrated ability to act quickly and effectively on both client needs and market opportunities.”

The ADA Advantage® product is an example. Recent research suggests two out of three employers do not have a formal system in place to track or administer accommodation requests under ADA, while only one out of three report having engaged outside assistance. Launched last year, ADA Advantage® is one of the first – and arguably the most comprehensive – management products of its kind available.

“We make sure we know what’s most important to our clients, now and in the future,” Cope said. “That kind of alignment, and our commitment to being trusted business partners, help guide our progress and drive our success.”

Cardi is licensed to practice law in Colorado and New York. She received her law degree from the University of Colorado.

Headquartered in Phoenix, Matrix has service locations nationwide, including claims hubs in San Jose, Calif.; Phoenix; Hawthorne, N.Y.; Austin, Texas; and Portland, Ore. Matrix Absence Management is also the large case claims service platform for sister company Reliance Standard Life Insurance, jointly delivering integrated disability, employee leave and return to work services with employee benefits insurance coverage.

Matrix and Reliance Standard are members of the Tokio Marine Group. Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc., the ultimate holding company of the Tokio Marine Group, operates in the property and casualty insurance, reinsurance and life insurance sectors globally. The Group’s main operating subsidiary, Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire (TMNF), was founded in 1879 and is the oldest and leading property and casualty insurer in Japan.
