Floratech Donates ‘Ounces of Prevention’

by Mike Hunter

As communities worldwide see heightened demand and a shortage of hand sanitizer, one locally based company has shifted gears to help with supply.

Floratech, a company that produces botanical ingredients used by formulators of cosmetic and personal care products, decided early last month to start producing its own sanitizer and donate it to those who need it the most. This started with a donation of 800 bottles to the 7th Street Food Pantry and Outreach in Phoenix.

Floratech’s hand sanitizer is comparable to other commercially recognized brands and uses ingredients from botanical sources including Jojoba oil, which is a native species to Arizona. Floratech also just received a new shipment of 10,000 empty bottles they can use to fill with hand sanitizer that will be donated to those who are most in need.

Says Floratech president Steve Brown, “We are about 100 families in the Valley, on both the east (Chandler) and west (Buckeye) sides. We have all decided to step up to help our neighbors in this time of need.

“Floratech makes ingredients for beauty, health and hygiene products worldwide. We have formulated hand sanitizers in our lab for over 20 years. Due to Covid-19 and absence of hand sanitizer at retail, we have redirected our resources to produce as much hand sanitizer as we can. We intend it for the elderly and immunocompromised in our community who aren’t under any institutional care — especially those who have nobody looking out for them. To reach them, we distribute these free of charge via churches, food banks and other local private charities (but not from our building! We just aren’t set up to do that). We have also provided hand sanitizers to our local first responders.

“We take the coming Covid-19 situation very seriously and will do all we can, despite our own raw materials being in sporadic supply, to make every drop of sanitizer, without charging a penny. These are truly ounces of prevention for our neighbors that need it the most.”

Floratech, the leading innovator of multifunctional, botanical ingredients for five decades, provides innovative ingredients for beauty, health and hygiene products worldwide. Floratech ingredients are derived from renewable botanicals such as jojoba, macadamia, sunflower and moringa. These natural ingredients strengthen the sustainable, renewable and botanical attributes of finished formulations.
