Box Play for Kids Named Finalist in Martha Stewart Contest

Box Play for Kids Sept. 10, 2014

Phoenix-based Box Play for Kids has found itself in the spotlight once again. This time it’s by Martha Stewart. Box Play for Kids was recently named a finalist in Stewart’s nationwide “American Made” contest, which recognizes local, handmade innovators who are dedicated to creating beautiful things.

“Our stickers promote creative play and stimulate curiosity,” said Janette Harwell, founder of Box Play for Kids. “They really help children bring their imagination to life.”

The kid- and eco-friendly stickers transform cereal boxes, egg cartons, milk cartons, mac ’n’ cheese boxes, paper towel and toilet paper rolls into record players, pianos, fire trucks, cameras, bowling pins and binoculars.

“Since our earliest days as a company, we have celebrated artisanal initiative, local provenance, and creative entrepreneurialism,” said Stewart, founder, chief creative officer and head judge of American Made. “With American Made, we honor and support a growing population of those makers who create beautiful and useful products, pioneer new industries, and improve their local communities.”

American Made named finalists across the country in four categories: crafts, design, food, and style. Box Play for Kids was named a finalist in the crafts category. Box Play for Kids offers an assortment of inexpensive stickers that can be creatively applied to common household items that would otherwise be thrown away or recycled, magically repurposing them into new toys that encourage learning.

Martha Stewart isn’t the only one to recognize Box Play for Kids. Forbes, Parents magazine and The Today Show are just a few of the news outlets that have given this crafty company two-thumbs up.

From Sept. 15 to Oct. 13, a panel of judges will review all American Made finalists to determine nine total winners among the four categories. Finalists will be judged on innovativeness, creativity, originality, workmanship, appearance and embodiment of the American Made theme. During this same timeframe, the general public will vote online at http://www.marthastewart.com/americanmade to help name an Audience Choice Award Winner.

The ten American Made winners will be announced on or about Oct. 17. Each winner will receive a $10,000 prize as well as a chance to be featured in Martha Stewart Living magazine, on her website, www.marthastewart.com, and through her radio channel on SiriusXM radio.
