Arizona Oncology, a premier provider of advanced cancer care across the state of Arizona, announced today it is expanding with new services and levels of care at its East Valley, Biltmore and Arrowhead locations and with the addition of several new fellowship-trained oncologists.
The provider hired 6 oncologists and a fellowship trained breast surgeon to join its existing network of more than 60 physicians.
- Ali Madani, MD.,PhD specializing in medical oncology and hematology at the East Valley Cancer Center in Tempe
- Abraham Kanate, MD, specializing in bone marrow transplant at Virginia G. Piper Cancer Transplant Institute in Scottsdale
- Amir Azadi, MD, specializing in neuro-oncology at the Biltmore Cancer Center in Phoenix
- Ronik Bhangoo, MD, specializing in radiation oncology at the Arrowhead Radiation Oncology & Imaging Center in Glendale
- Ian Komenaka, MD, specializing in breast surgery at the East Valley Cancer Center
- Katherine Stewart, MD, specializing in gynecology oncology at the East Valley Cancer Center
- Samuel Day MD, PhD specializing in radiation oncology at the East Valley Cancer Center

Service Expansions
The new physicians are helping to expand Arizona Oncology’s existing services and bring new, first-in-class practices, including:
- Elevated research. Dr. Madani is helping to elevate Arizona Oncology’s focus on research alongside Abhimanyu Ghose, MD, who leads trials for lung cancer patients in the Phoenix area. He brings more than 20 years of practice in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology, along with substantial research that has been widely published in various medical journals.
- Innovative fertility options. Dr. Stewart will spearhead Arizona Oncology’s new Oncofertility Program this fall. Dr. Stewart, whose fellowship concentrated in gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, will oversee this first-of-its-kind treatment program focused on innovative fertility options for cancer survivors.
- New immunotherapy program. Dr. Kanate will join Veena Fauble, MD, and Adrienne Briggs, MD, at Virginia G. Piper Cancer Transplant Institute to expand its new CAR-T Cell Therapy Program. CAR-T is an innovative type of immunotherapy that stimulates the body’s immune system to fight cancer.
- Brain tumor diagnostics and treatments. As a fellow trained in neuro-oncology, Dr. Azadi will be heading Arizona Oncology’s neuro-oncology services to offer new levels of care in diagnosing and treating brain tumors. Dr. Azadi completed his neuro-oncology fellowship at the Barrow Neurological Institute and is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.
- Radiation services. Dr. Bhangoo will work alongside radiation oncologists Dr. Jerry Lucas, Dr. Subhakar Mutyala and Dr. Marshall Davis. Dr. Bhangoo has participated in various radiation oncology publications. He comes to Arizona Oncology from the Radiation Oncology Residency Program at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. Additionally, Dr. Day will join East Valley Cancer Center, bringing his expertise and interest in radiotherapy and radiosurgery applications using imaging tools to improve the precision and safety of radiation therapy.
