Northrop Grumman has opened the new A1 building on its Gilbert campus, expanding its capacity to support critical space missions for national security, civil and commercial customers. The 120,000-square-foot facility adds office space, classified work areas, integration and testing facilities, and mission support space. The investment expands workforce capacity and further solidifies Gilbert as a critical hub for the company’s advanced space manufacturing and engineering operations.

Northrop Grumman senior leaders joined local, state and federal elected officials, community partners and employees to celebrate the opening. The new building reflects the company’s continued commitment to Arizona and the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, supporting highly skilled jobs and strengthening the regional industrial base.

The opening builds on Northrop Grumman’s established satellite manufacturing capabilities in Gilbert. The company’s Satellite Manufacturing Facility is among the largest in the United States and accommodates manufacturing, assembly and testing activities for commercial and government missions involving Earth imaging, space science, communications and national defense.

The Gilbert facility supports low-Earth-orbit and geosynchronous-orbit satellites, as well as planetary spacecraft. Those capabilities complement Northrop Grumman’s broader Arizona operations, including its Chandler facilities supporting launch and missile defense systems.

Across Arizona, the company’s workforce includes engineers, program managers, manufacturing professionals and support staff working on space and defense products and services. Their work spans design, development, manufacturing, testing, launch and on-orbit operations.

According to an economic impact study highlighted by Northrop Grumman, the company’s Arizona operations support more than 18,500 jobs and have a $5 billion economic impact statewide. The Gilbert expansion continues that investment in Arizona’s workforce and manufacturing infrastructure while supporting the company’s national security, civil and commercial space customers.
