New Café Aims to Raise the Bar on Healthy Dining in Tempe

Buffables Café, located at 1325 W. University Dr., is set to open this June with the mission of redefining and improving upon the concept of healthy dining as the community knows it. Buffables is the brainchild of Craig and Grant Logan, brothers and entrepreneurs whose passion for healthy cooking, eating and living inspired them to create a “healthier version of a healthy spot.”

“Healthy is not really healthy in many cases. The word is vague and can be misused easily for marketing purposes. My brother and I have a passion for this, and we just want to make an affordable health food café that actually is healthy,” said Craig, co-founder of Buffables Café with brother Grant. “We want people to be able to afford to come get coffee, matcha, acai bowls and other healthy food and drinks on a regular basis.”

The Logan brothers have gone all-in on the concept of making healthy food and drinks better. After all, the very definition of their café name, Buffables, means to polish and thus get better.

Ingredients for the brand’s food and beverage are intentionally sourced from quality origins. Guests can expect the finest coffee roasted in small batches in Oregon, matcha directly sourced from a matcha farm outside Tokyo, pure unsweetened acai from Brazil, fresh pressed organic juices, and hand-crafted toasts with sourdough from Proof bakery, among other things.

The menu is entirely free of seed oils and fillers and has zero refined sugar.

The menu was developed with a hand from Sandro Falbo, executive chef of the Kimpton Mas Olas Resort in Mexico. The property emphasizes the farm-to-table concept and grows its own food onsite, which Chef Falbo incorporates into the menus there.

“Sandro has been instrumental in inspiring us and helping us create our own health-driven menu,” said Craig. “He is a brilliant chef, and we are grateful for his efforts.”

In addition to dining-in options, Buffables will feature a retail section of the latest healthy and trendy snacks and drinks for grab-and-go purchases. The Logans have also formulated their own refined-sugar-free granola called Coconut Munch, which will be featured in Buffables acai bowls and packaged for purchase.

Along with their passion for healthy living and eating, the Logan brothers have a shared interest in entrepreneurship. Both helped their mother, Heather Logan, pivot and scale operations for her business, Pomchies. The brand went from a small, family-owned operation to a multi-million dollar enterprise with multiple employees amid the pandemic, in large part due to the Logan brothers’ ingenuity.

In addition to having an entrepreneurial mother, the Logan brothers were also raised by a father immersed in the hospitality industry. Despite his global success with brands such as Four Seasons, Raffles, and One & Only, Dad Robert Logan advised his sons not to get into hospitality. However, both Craig and Grant have long been enticed by the industry and were trained early in hospitality, customer service, and food and beverage as they grew up in resorts around the world with their father.

Along with their combined passions for all things food and beverage, the Logan brothers have distinct backgrounds, with Craig serving as regional marketing director of Boeing Business Jets for The Boeing Company in Seattle, and Grant offering his management and strategy skills to Humans Matter in New York City prior to turning their attention to their joint full-time venture, Buffables Café.
