Feringhee is the first restaurant concept in Phoenix, developed by Chef Sujan Sarkar in collaboration with Madhavi Reddy where the kitchen is headed by talented Chef Karan Mittal who is closely working with internationally lauded Chef Sujan Sarkar who will introduce Valley diners to the rich flavors, diverse culinary resources, and contemporary plating and cooking styles favored in modern Indian cuisine.
Now open at 3491 W Frye Road in Chandler, Feringhee Modern Indian Cuisine represents Chef Sarkar’s first foray into the Phoenix food scene and combines the culinary talents of Sarkar and Head Chef Karan Mittal alongside the restaurant’s visionary Founder, Madhavi Reddy. Through the use of fine produce, exquisite ingredients and humble Indian spices, Feringhee takes guests on a culinary tour of India’s varied landscape and challenges guests to rethink everything they know about traditional Indian cuisine.
Offering contemporary takes on traditional Indian dishes and cocktails, Feringhee Modern Indian Cuisine merges locally, seasonally sourced proteins and produce with aromatic Indian spices and authentic regional flavors. From farm-fresh lettuces, microgreens, and squash blossoms sourced from Mesa’s Steadfast Farms to fresh fish from Chula Seafood, grass-fed lamb from Sterling Meats, and Wild Mushrooms from Hypha Foods, Feringhee uses fine local ingredients from each season to create rich, flavorful dishes celebrating the diversity of India’s culinary landscape.
“I tend to combine our Indian heritage with my love for local ingredients to create innovative Indian dishes based on my travel and nostalgia, “said Mittal. “Feringhee will represent modern versions of regional and diverse cuisines of my home country.”
Drawing inspiration from different regions across the country, the menu includes feisty favorites like Puchka and Kulcha, a Tandoori-stuffed bread made with masala-ricotta cheese and fava served alongside pindi chana hummus and pickled gooseberries. Other menu highlights include Kerala Quilon Chicken served with peanut chutney, avocado pachadi and moringa and signature Indian kebabs cooked in tandoor, among them Duck Seekh, Kasturi Lamb Chop and Kasundi Shrimp varieties.
Designed to complement the food menu, Feringhee’s inventive cocktail lineup features handcrafted, regionally inspired options made with fresh herbs, spices and other ingredients representative of India’s unique cocktail culture.
With a vibrant, colorful interior and a relaxed, low-key vibe, Feringhee Modern Indian Cuisine merges notes of traditional Indian opulence and design aesthetics with contemporary, laid-back surroundings. Whether dining inside in the eatery’s Main Hall or enjoying the great outdoors on the open-air patio, Feringhee’s authentic, inviting atmosphere encourages connection, communication, and thoughtful conversation.
Inspired early on by his grandmother’s cooking in the vibrant and eclectic capital city of Delhi, Chef Karan Mittal helped develop Feringhee’s menu alongside Chef Sarkar and honed his culinary skills at some of the globe’s leading restaurants, including Coi in San Francisco and Portland and Le Gavroche in London, England, all of which hold Michelin stars., along with Indian Accent in New Delhi, the only restaurant in India on San Pellegrino World’s 100 Best Restaurant List. Chef Karan is also the winner of many National awards including Food & Wine’s Rising Star of the Year and Best Young Chef of the Year at the 2018 Irish Curry Awards.
Serving as Founder and President at Feringhee is Madhavi Reddy, who owns a group of ethnic grocery stores and draws upon her hospitality, agricultural and entrepreneurial backgrounds to create a warm, hospitality-focused environment where everyone feels welcome.
“We have a shared desire to disrupt the Indian-based foodservice industry here in the Valley,” Reddy said. “We’re proud to introduce the ultimate progressive Indian dining experience to the greater Phoenix area.”
