GitKraken, the leading provider of Git Tools, announced today that startup executive Matt Johnston has joined the company as its new CEO. The move comes after a year of major milestones, including taking a strategic investment from Resurgens Technology Partners, and acquiring a pair of top-rated Git tools: GitLens and Git Integration for Jira.
The company also announced it has formally changed its name from Axosoft to GitKraken. This shift reflects the company’s present and future as a provider of several of the top-rated, most-used developer tools in the entire Git ecosystem. GitKraken’s suite of products now serve more than 10 million developers at 100,000 organizations. This includes technology leaders like Microsoft, Google and Apple; disruptive innovators like Amazon, Tesla and Netflix; as well as industry bellwethers like American Express, Bose and Honeywell.
“Matt is uniquely suited to lead GitKraken into the future,” said Executive Chairman, Wayne Williams. ”His track record as a leader, an entrepreneur, and a community builder line up incredibly well with what we’ve built at GitKraken – and what we want to build in the coming years.”
These announcements come at a time of strong growth for GitKraken, in terms of product usage and revenue. The recent acquisitions more than doubled the size of the company, from 40 employees to more than 90. GitKraken will also be hiring more than 30 new employees in Arizona and remotely – particularly in product management, engineering and DevOps – by the end of 2022.
“The acquisitions of GitLens and Git Integration for Jira enable GitKraken to serve developers wherever they want to work – in the IDE, on the desktop, or in their issue-tracking system,” said Johnston. “Git is powerful, but inherently complex and risky. GitKraken solves this massive problem daily for more than 10 million developers around the world, by making Git much easier to learn and much safer to use.”
Previously, Johnston led e-commerce, marketing and strategy at notable brands like Herman Miller, Applause, and Acquia, as well as the CEO and Co-founder of open source marketing automation company, Mautic.
“Matt’s experience as a CEO and a marketing leader made him a great fit to bring these strategic pieces together and take GitKraken forward,” stated Fred Sturgis. Managing Director of Resurgen Technology Partners. “He has built high-growth companies that cater to technical audiences, and his expertise complements the product and engineering strengths that are now in place at GitKraken.”
