A Decade of Leadership: Downtown Phoenix Inc. Announces 2024 Board Rosters

When Downtown Phoenix Inc. [DPI] was launched in 2013 as a community-building organization to help manage multiple city-building non-profits and drive the Downtown neighborhood forward, it was only able to do so thanks to the vision and financial contributions of its investors.

Over those transformational first 10 years, DPI has been incredibly fortunate to retain 10 of its 11 original founding investors—Alliance Bank of Arizona, Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Public Service, Arizona State University, Lewis Roca, City of Phoenix, Phoenix Suns, RED Development, United Healthcare, and Visit Phoenix—but gain two new investors (HKS and Wexford Science + Technology).

These dedicated investors make up DPI’s board of directors, and those individuals (a group that includes Mayor Kate Gallego, City Manager Jeffrey Barton, and four community leaders appointed by Mayor Gallego) help shape DPI’s work plan and ensure our Downtown continues its ascent as one of America’s great cities.

DPI can’t provide important enhanced municipal services like the DTPHX Ambassadors and Clean + Green Team to the 90-block business core without its Enhanced Municipal Services District Advisory Board. This collection of Downtown stakeholders—including elected officials, City and County leaders, small business owners, property managers, cultural venue managers, and residents, collaborates with DPI leadership and staff to maintain Downtown’s second-to-none sidewalk experience and overall health.

One of the key reasons DPI was created in 2013 was to bring Downtown Phoenix Partnership (which was merged into DPI as a division in 2022) and Phoenix Community Alliance [PCA] into alignment and make community building, street-level services, and advocacy a three-pronged value proposition to the Downtown Phoenix community.

Formed in 1983, PCA is DPI’s oldest affiliate organization is powered by an executive committee and a board of directors along with over 300 opt-in Members who have worked tirelessly for 40 years to create a stronger Downtown for a better Phoenix.

DPI is a people-powered organization and can’t do what it does without the integral contributions from nearly 100 board members across all affiliates, which includes Downtown Phoenix Community Development Corporation, a grant-funded non-profit that works to advance development and redevelopment of housing and mixed-use projects that will contribute to a more equitable and inclusive Downtown.

It’s been an incredible first 10 years of DPI and collectively, staff and distinguished board members are committed to replicating that success and continuing to grow with Downtown.
