Mesa Mayor John Giles accepted a check for $267,570 in rebates from SRP, marking a significant milestone in the City’s efforts to reach carbon neutrality in the decades ahead. The check, presented by SRP Associate General Manager and Chief Customer Executive Vanessa Kisicki, represents rebate incentives for energy efficiency projects and Mesa’s electric firetruck.

“The City of Mesa’s innovative spirit is bringing us closer to our Climate Action goals,” said Mayor Giles. “By forming strategic partnerships with companies like SRP and making smart infrastructure investments, we are successfully reducing the City’s carbon footprint and providing new efficiencies for residents.”

Over the last year, Mesa completed more than 600 lighting upgrade incentives at City parks and became Arizona’s first municipality to commission and deploy an all-electric firetruck.

“Mesa has done a remarkable job maximizing SRP’s business rebates to drive innovation, improve infrastructure and reinforce the city’s reputation as a wonderful place to live and work,” said Kisicki. “This City has become a model to other municipalities in reducing energy and carbon emissions and improving air quality for Mesa residents and employees.”

The City’s partnership with SRP is part of Mesa’s long-term commitment to become more climate efficient. Since adopting the Mesa Climate Action Plan (MCAP) in 2021, the City has invested $15.4 million in climate projects to help reach its carbon neutrality goals by 2050. Among dozens of projects and programs now in place, the City is working to replace streetlights, electrify Mesa’s fleet and support utility-scale solar projects. This includes an effort to support more renewable energy on the grid through SRP’s Solar Choice Select program.

The rebates from SRP come on the heels of a $11.8 million Department of Transportation grant. The funds, awarded in January, will strengthen the city’s public electric charging network.
