More than 20 experts in the field of artificial intelligence are assembling in Tempe, Arizona, on November 17, 2023, to take part in the first Artificial Intelligence Day hosted by the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence, one of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University.
“There is so much discovery happening in artificial intelligence and machine learning right now. This is an ideal time to showcase the exciting work we are doing here,” says Associate Professor Paulo Shakarian, who is leading the event featuring more than a dozen sessions on a broad range of topics including embedded AI and neurosymbolic reasoning.
Three keynotes on the schedule include a presentation by Professor Subbarao Kambhampati on whether large language models such as ChatGPT can reason and plan, a session by Professor Huan Liu that considers social media mining as a bountiful frontier in AI and data science, as well as a discussion by Professor Chitta Baral on how his research at ASU has led to recent advances in generative AI and made possible systems like ChatGPT.
Additional sessions include Assistant Professor Hannah Kerner on unlocking planetary-scale AI for a sustainable future, Assistant Professor Nakul Gopalan on interactive robot learning, and an interdisciplinary panel of eight experts surveying the current state and possible futures of artificial intelligence research, development, and application.
The first Artificial Intelligence Day will be held at the Brickyard complex on Mill Avenue. Attendee check-in opens at 8:00am and programming starts at 9:00am.
