Register to vote and Democrat campaign donation searches surge since Sunday
Google Trends data showing relative search interest for “register to vote” for the past 30 days.
Harris’s endorsement drew a lot of hype from voters, with searches for “register to vote” immediately soaring. Searches exploded by 1,011% following Sunday’s events. Overall, Sunday’s searches for registering to vote were the highest they have been in the past month, eclipsing the spike following the attempted assassination of former President Trump on July 13.
Searches for registering to vote on Monday were most popular in Florida, while Arizona was sixth. Other key states such as Georgia and Pennsylvania were in the top 10.
Searches for “donate to Harris” and “ActBlue” skyrocketed, too. Searches for ActBlue, a left-leaning political fundraising platform, surged over 100 times its pre-Biden announcement figure after Harris was endorsed, and over seven times higher than at any other point in July, according to preliminary data.
“Kamala Harris’s endorsement from President Biden has sent shockwaves through the social media landscape,” said Marc Porcar, CEO of QR Code Generator. “We wanted to see just how huge this was, finding Harris’s follower counts have gone through the roof since the events on Sunday. We also looked at Google Trends data to see what this means to the wider electorate, seeing sharp spikes for ‘register to vote,’ ‘donate to Harris,’ and ‘ActBlue’ searches. This increase in ‘register to vote’ searches was most pronounced in Florida, which will prove pivotal in the race to 270 electoral college votes this November.”
