Teravalis, a Howard Hughes Community, broke ground on Echo Community Center, a 22,000-square-foot recreational and wellness hub that will anchor the community’s first village, Floreo. Local officials, community leaders, development partners, and stakeholders gathered for the ceremonial groundbreaking for the center, which is set to open in early 2027.

Echo Community Center will serve as Floreo’s social gathering place. The name “Echo” symbolizes experiences that reverberate throughout a space, creating continuity and connectivity.

“Echo represents more than a place, it embodies the lasting impact we want this community to have,” said Charley Freericks, President of the Arizona Region for Howard Hughes Communities. “Its energy, activity, and experiences will resonate across Teravalis, fostering connections that strengthen our neighborhoods and bring people together for generations.”

The center will feature a welcoming community lounge, reservable event spaces, and advanced fitness facilities designed for both group classes and personal workouts. Outside, it will offer a pickleball pavilion with 17 courts including a stadium court, a variety of outdoor gathering spaces, a resort-style water park, a dog park, and connection to miles of scenic walking and biking trails, all set against the backdrop of the High Sonoran Desert.

“Buckeye’s growth has been extraordinary, and Teravalis is a key driver of that transformation,” said Buckeye Mayor Eric Orsborn. “The Echo Community Center represents the next phase of our city’s expansion west of the White Tank Mountains, offering new opportunities for recreation, connection, and quality of life. This project reflects the innovative vision shaping Buckeye’s future.”

Sustainability and wellness are at the heart of Echo’s design. The community center has achieved LEED Precertification from the U.S. Green Building Council, incorporating strategies such as drought-tolerant landscaping, stormwater harvesting, wastewater reuse for irrigation, water-efficient fixtures, shade-integrated site planning, and reduced heat island impacts.

Set on a 22-acre site with expansive open and green spaces, Echo at Floreo is expected to open in early 2027 and represents a cornerstone investment in Teravalis’ long-term vision: a connected, sustainable, and thriving master-planned community in the High Sonoran Desert.

This major milestone will be followed closely by Floreo Fest at Teravalis on Saturday, November 15th, the official grand opening celebration of the community. In addition to tours of model homes from the seven diverse homebuilders at Teravalis, the event will feature live music, art and interactive activations, food and more at select parks and common spaces within the community.
