Financial Institutions Provide $50,000 towards Pandemic Lung Health Initiatives

TruWest Credit Union

Responding to the need for lifesaving research and education to help put an end to the COVID-19 pandemic, TruWest Credit Union and the Federal Home Bank of San Francisco (FHLBank San Francisco) have partnered to help fund the American Lung Association’s COVID-19 Action Initiative.  The credit union’s past year’s donations qualified for a matching grant from FHLBank San Francisco, resulting in a combined donation of $50,000 to the American Lung Association. These funds will go towards the American Lung Association’s COVID-19 research, education, advocacy and coalition work.

“Partnering with FHLBank San Francisco and the American Lung Association provides an opportunity for TruWest Credit Union to make a real difference in the fight against COVID-19,” said Alan Althouse, President and CEO of TruWest Credit Union.   “With this matching donation, we are able to provide the American Lung Association much needed funds for their critical COVID-19 Action Initiative.”

“We are truly grateful for TruWest’s investment in the lifesaving work of the American Lung Association,” said Elizabeth Walton, Executive Director of the American Lung Association in Arizona. “Their desire to help our country end and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic found a kindred partner in the Lung Association’s groundbreaking COVID-19 Action Initiative and our unyielding efforts to promote lung health. Their generosity and vision will directly help all those in our community who suffer from lung disease.”

“We are pleased to partner with our member TruWest Credit Union in supporting the American Lung Association’s multi-pronged COVID-19 action initiative,” said Marietta Núñez, Senior Vice President and Community Investment Officer at FHLBank San Francisco. “This work will have significant immediate and long-term benefits across all demographics, while also offering programs that are specifically targeted to communities disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.”

The Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco is a member-driven cooperative helping local lenders in Arizona, California, and Nevada build strong communities, create opportunity, and change lives for the better. The tools and resources the Bank provides to member financial institutions foster homeownership, expand access to quality housing, seed or sustain small businesses, and revitalize whole neighborhoods. In response to the escalating economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the communities served by its members, FHLBank San Francisco is matching the donations or contributions they make to support local nonprofits and small businesses.

The American Lung Association is the leading organization working to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, through research, education and advocacy. The work of the American Lung Association is focused on four strategic imperatives: to defeat lung cancer; to improve the air we breathe; to reduce the burden of lung disease on individuals and their families; and to eliminate tobacco use and tobacco-related diseases.
