Michael Hughes has been leading A New Leaf as its CEO for 50 years, a rare leadership milestone for a major Arizona nonprofit that serves nearly 15,000 individuals annually through housing, domestic violence, family support, and financial empowerment programs.
Marking his retirement this year and the historic leadership transition the organization honored Hughes at the aptly named Camaraderie Gala this past Saturday. The program reflected on his extraordinary legacy while outlining A New Leaf’s vision for the future at a time when housing challenges across the Valley remain urgent.
As one of the region’s largest social service nonprofits, A New Leaf serves nearly 15,000 individuals annually through nearly 30 programs focused on housing assistance, domestic violence support, financial empowerment, family stability, and more. Gala proceeds will directly support these critical services.
Governor Katie Hobbs attended the event and delivered remarks on A New Leaf’s community impact and the importance of public-private partnerships in expanding access to shelter, housing, and supportive services across Arizona. And Congressman Greg Stanton presented Hughes a Congressional Record honoring his 50 years of service.
