Architecture and design firm Dekker announced the appointment of Emily Allen as chief executive officer, effective immediately. Allen succeeds Benjamin Gardner, who has served as CEO since 2019 and will transition to managing principal of the firm’s Government Studio.
Allen follows a deliberate succession process led by Dekker’s executive leadership team and was unanimously selected to lead the firm into its next chapter.
“After more than two decades working alongside Emily, I have complete confidence in her vision, integrity and deep commitment to Dekker and the communities we serve,” said Benjamin Gardner. “This transition is the right step for Dekker, and I could not be prouder of the leader we are elevating today.”
Allen joined Dekker in 2004 as an intern and advanced through a series of leadership positions, most recently serving as chief financial officer, where she aligned financial strategy, operations, and design. Her career has included more than two decades of growth and leadership at the firm.
“I will continue to lead Dekker with a people-first approach grounded in curiosity and strategic vision,” Allen said. “I’m energized and honored by this opportunity, and I’m grateful for the chance to pay this growth forward to our people, our craft, and our clients. I’m ready to help write the next chapter alongside this remarkable team.”
Alongside the transition, Allen and Gardner emphasized several priorities for the firm’s future, including continued growth, transparency, and long-term impact through design. The company plans to maintain its focus on helping people thrive and creating opportunities for employees to contribute where they can make the greatest difference.
Gardner said the firm’s leadership remains committed to strengthening client relationships and continuing to build on Dekker’s culture and legacy.
