Banner Health patients will experience faster recoveries, fewer complications, and better surgical outcomes thanks to a sweeping investment in the most advanced robotic surgery technology available. Banner Health is upgrading its surgical robot fleet to Intuitive’s da Vinci 5 system – one of the largest investments by any health system in the nation – reinforcing its nonprofit mission to reinvest every dollar back into exceptional patient care.

This upgrade is rolling out across Banner hospitals in Arizona, Colorado and Wyoming where da Vinci robotic assisted surgery is already performed. The system will have a total of 49 da Vinci 5 robots across the system.

Banner Health continues to invest in advanced robotic technologies designed to enhance clinical excellence. These upgraded systems provide surgeons with greater precision and enhanced image resolution. The robotic-assisted systems translate surgical hand movements into more control and smaller movements inside the patient’s body, resulting in gentler and more efficient procedures overall. The upgraded device makes surgical procedures up to 20% more efficient, leading to faster recoveries and less pain for patients. Performance analytics, insights, and telepresence for real-time case observation across surgeons in different states enables our teams to deliver more consistency – reducing complications and improving outcomes.
The full upgrade is expected to be completed by next month.
