New Pathways for Youth (NPFY) is celebrating its 35th anniversary of transforming the lives of Phoenix youth facing poverty and adversity. Founded on April 24th, 1989, NPFY has served over 8,000 youth, engaged over 8,000 volunteers, and fundraised over $45 million, but it doesn’t stop there.
NPFY’s mission is to transform the lives of youth by providing the support, stability, and skills they need to flourish in the community and in their families. Because of the community the organization has built, and the resources it provides, NPFY is critical to the youth and families they serve in south, west, and central Phoenix.
“I’m honored to lead an organization that has empowered youth for three and a half decades,” said Karen D. Johnson, PhD, President and CEO of New Pathways for Youth. “Since 1989, we haven’t stopped growing, and we’re excited to continue improving and expanding across the Valley.”
New Pathways for Youth was previously known as the Greater Phoenix Youth at Risk Foundation, before changing its name in 2012. In 2023, NPFY rebranded its signature teen program as Level Up, and then launched the Level Up Academy, which brings its curriculum to students in school and community-based settings across the Valley.
These initiatives will allow NPFY to serve more youth and families across Phoenix, starting with its goal of matching 100 youth and mentors in 2024.
The organization will celebrate this milestone at its annual Stories of Transformation Breakfast on March 28, before hosting an official anniversary party in April. Supporters are encouraged to purchase a table for the Stories of Transformation breakfast before March 18th to hear inspiring firsthand stories from youth on how Level Up has transformed their lives.
