TruWest® Credit Union has raised $4,600 for the American Lung Association through the first ever Fight for Air Climb in Phoenix. The Fight for Air Climb is an event where community members typically climb stairs together in support of raising awareness and funds for the cure of lung disease but was hosted virtually this year.
Over 50 TruWest Credit Union team members rallied together to make the lifesaving donation possible. Participants were encouraged to donate and find sponsors for fundraising and then climb the stairs in their own homes, run up a hill, or go for a walk in their community to honor the event virtually.
“We have had a longstanding partnership with the America Lung Association and it is more important than ever to protect and advocate for our lung health,” said President and CEO of TruWest Credit Union, Alan Althouse. “We were excited to participate in this innovative Fight for Air Climb event and look forward to future fundraising opportunities.”
Asthma, COPD and other lung diseases affect more than 33 million Americans, with lung cancer being the most common cause of death. Lung disease death rates continue to increase while other leading causes of death have declined. The American Lung Association combats lung diseases by conducting lung health education, lifesaving research, other critical programs and services, and through its advocacy. Its COVID-19 Action Initiative supports preventive research, vaccines, antivirals and future outbreak preparedness.
