The Downtown Mesa Association, which champions a vibrant, creative, and economically thriving downtown area, is announcing its new Executive Director, James (Jimmy) Cerracchio. Cerracchio, who previously served as the project manager for the City of Mesa’s Office of Urban Transformation, will lead the organization in bolstering the economic growth and business development of downtown Mesa.

With rapid growth and significant investment in Downtown Mesa (i.e., 1,500 units built since 2017, 1,800 units under development, and ASU’s MIX Center), the Downtown Mesa Association works with the City of Mesa, developers, and nearly 400 property owners to help shape the city’s urban core.

“After reviewing over 170 applications and conducting in-depth interviews with qualified candidates, our board knew that Jimmy was the perfect fit for this role,” said Tim Sprague, chair of the Downtown Mesa Association. “He has a strong understanding of downtown development, special districts, and civic partnerships, as well as an entrepreneurial mindset and passion for community transformation. Jimmy brings the perfect blend of expertise and excitement to the position.  We look forward to seeing how he continues to elevate downtown Mesa.”

As executive director, Cerracchio will drive development momentum while connecting academic, corporate, cultural, and community partners, integrating ASU into the downtown core, and catalyzing the next phase of Downtown Mesa’s transformation.

“Through my work with Mesa’s Office of Urban Transformation and experience leading place management organizations, I am fully prepared to lead Downtown Mesa Association through the existing challenges and vision for the future of our incredible downtown,” said Cerracchio. “I look forward to bringing my experience, creative approach, and innovative ideas to build upon downtown Mesa’s bright future.”

Throughout his career, Cerracchio was known for bringing creative ideas to the table and stewardship of urban areas. Since 2004, he has helped develop and direct downtown organizations towards their strategic goals and vision. His previous roles include the president and CEO of the Downtown Fresno Partnership, executive director of the Downtown Hampton Development Partnership, and senior vice president of marketing, business development, and operations for the Downtown Tempe Community.
