Copper State Credit Union announced the appointment of Joel A. Gallon, CPA, as its new chief financial officer. With over 25 years of experience in financial services and a deep commitment to community-focused banking, Gallon brings a wealth of expertise and a people-first philosophy to the role.

“Joel brings a rare combination of financial expertise and a deep understanding of what it means to serve a community,” said Robb Scott, president and CEO of Copper State Credit Union. “His experience leading community banks and credit unions, along with his commitment to helping people navigate their financial journeys, makes him a strong addition to our leadership team.”

Gallon, a certified public accountant since 2001, has built his career around strengthening smaller community banks and credit unions. His previous roles include CFO positions at Integro Bank, Republic Bank of Arizona (now Pima Federal Credit Union), Bank 1440 (now Southwest Heritage Bank) in Phoenix, and IBEW Plus Credit Union (now Plus Credit Union) in Las Vegas. Known for his ability to lead through change, Gallon has consistently helped institutions grow, stabilize, and thrive, often stepping in during challenging times to rebuild financial foundations and drive operational efficiency.

“Credit unions are about people helping people,” Gallon said. “That mission resonates with me. It’s like team sports. You do whatever it takes for your teammates. I’ve never worked at a big bank where no one knows your name. I believe in the power of personal connection and community.”

Originally from a military family, Gallon grew up in Peoria, Arizona, and graduated from Grand Canyon University with a degree in accounting. He began his career auditing community financial institutions at McGladrey and Pullen, LLP, before transitioning into executive leadership. His approach to finance is grounded in precision, transparency, and a passion for helping members navigate life’s financial ups and downs.

At Copper State Credit Union, Gallon will oversee accounting operations and guide the credit union’s financial strategy as it continues to expand. With $610 million in assets and seven branches, CSCU is actively exploring growth opportunities in Scottsdale, San Tan, and Lake Pleasant, areas where community banking options are limited.

“Our goal is to grow in a way that keeps us personal and accessible,” Gallon said. “Whether members want to bank through an app or walk into a branch and be greeted by name, we’re here for them.”

Gallon lives in north Phoenix with his wife Stacy and their two Australian shepherds. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoys hiking, water sports, golf, and racquetball.
