Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona is looking for volunteers to help the nonprofit this summer. Individual volunteers and corporate groups can complete projects from the comfort of their own home! These projects include: Affirmation Cards, Magazine Clippings, Bravery Bracelets, and Art Room Maintenance.
“Many people are looking for ways to give back and volunteer in the community, now that we’re beginning to resume some sense of normalcy,” said Alicia Sutton Campbell, executive director, Free Arts. “We’re looking forward to welcoming back volunteers in person this fall but wanted to offer some meaningful and fun projects volunteers could do from their own homes this summer.”
Bravery Bracelets
Bravery Bracelets are a mindful project that teaches children and teens how to name their feelings with color, dream of the future, and affirm their positive qualities. We need help packaging the supplies for Bravery Bracelets into kits so we can distribute them to children and teens. If you are interested in creating Bravery Bracelet assembly kits, the instructions are located here. This opportunity requires you to purchase supplies for this project as a donation. This is a great project for children to help with during summer break!
Affirmation Cards
Volunteers may also create affirmation cards using the instructions here and send them to the Free Arts office. We include these in all of our regular programs in addition to some of our special projects, so we can always use more!
Magazine Clippings
Another helpful activity is cutting out magazines into smaller pieces for collages. This allows children more time to focus on their art activities and spend quality time with their mentors. If you are interested in this activity, instructions can be found here. After completing your collage cutouts, please send them to our Free Arts office at 352 E. Camelback Road, Suite 100, Phoenix, AZ 85012.
Art Room Maintenance
Our art room needs some TLC! If you are interested in reorganizing supplies, testing markers, sharpening pencils, or other art room tasks, reach out to programs@freeartsaz.org to get started. Maintaining supplies is important for children to successfully make art and can be done from home by checking out a bin from the Free Arts office.
Art Supply Donations
You can help from afar by refreshing our supply of art materials used by children in resilience building art activities checking out our Free Arts wish list or Bravery Box wish list. You can send these items to our office at 352 E. Camelback Road, Suite 100, Phoenix, AZ 85012. Please include a note with your name and contact information.
