The 2024 WM Phoenix Open has come to an exciting end with thousands of golf fans once again pushing off the Super Bowl to see who would be crowned the 2024 WM Phoenix Open champion. Finding the winner’s circle for the fourth time in his PGA TOUR career was Nick Taylor who raced darkness to best Charley Hoffman in a two-hole, sudden-death playoff.
The event is a tremendous boost to the economy for the Metro Phoenix area. Economic impact studies have, for years, noted the great impact the event has for Scottsdale and surrounding communities. This year’s event was no exception. While record attendance may have been dashed by weather this year, the Valley’s most iconic tournament was a resounding success.
The bookends of Taylor’s tournament were certainly worth celebrating. Taylor of course tied the TPC Scottsdale course record (60) in his first round before raising the Crystal Thunderbird trophy after firing a bogey-free 65 in his fourth round.
Taylor recorded three birdies in a row on No. 18. Once to force the playoff in regulation, and then twice more in each of the two playoff holes. With the win, Taylor earned $1,584,000 and 500 FedExCup points to move to fourth in the yearlong standings.
The 2024 edition of “The People’s Open” is a redemption story of sorts for Taylor who avenged his 2023 WM Phoenix Open runner-up finish to Scottie Scheffler just a year prior.
On behalf of The Thunderbirds, title sponsor WM and the PGA TOUR, the WM Phoenix Open would like to extend an enormous thank you to our volunteers and, of course, the very best fans in golf. Thank you for an outstanding tournament! We’ll see you next year at “The People’s Open!”
