Gallagher & Kennedy is thrilled to announce the return of two esteemed lawyers, Janey Henze Cook and Tom Henze. Their extensive experience handling white collar and non-white collar criminal cases will significantly enhance our firm’s capabilities.
Janey and Tom’s return to Gallagher & Kennedy marks a homecoming after managing their own firm for the past nine years.
Janey Henze Cook returns to the firm as a shareholder, bringing a wealth of knowledge in both white and general criminal cases, with a special focus on cases involving fraudulent schemes, homicide, and assault. Her unique experience in defending clients with the “guilty but insane” defense and assisted suicide defense, alongside representing victims’ families, underscores her versatility and commitment to justice. Janey’s adept problem-solving skills and dedication to her clients have not only garnered her immense respect within the legal community but also reassured her clients of her unwavering commitment to their cases.
An active member of her legal community, Janey is a member of the Women’s White Collar Defense Association, Maricopa County Bar Association’s Criminal Law Section, Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Further, she is a board member and past chair of the Phoenix Women’s Board of the Steele Children’s Research Center at the University of Arizona (PANDA), a member of the National Charity League and The Board of Visitors, volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul’s Legal Clinic, and many other philanthropic organizations.
Janey’s work has earned her rankings by Chambers USA in the areas of White-Collar Crime & Government Investigations, as well as recognition from Southwest Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America for Criminal Defense. Her previous tenure at G&K from 2006 to 2015, combined with her clerking experience under two United States District Court Judges, gives her a distinctive perspective on criminal and civil proceedings.
Tom Henze returns to Gallagher & Kennedy as Of Counsel with over 50 years of experience in defense litigation, including in cases of public corruption, money laundering, fraud, and serious offenses such as arson and homicide. Reflecting his strength in handling a wide range of high-profile cases, Tom represents corporations in regulatory investigations lead by agencies like the SEC, EPA, FAA, OSHA, and others.
Previously at G&K from 1992-2025, Tom’s 23-year history with the firm and his leadership in the criminal defense legal community solidify his reputation as a formidable litigator. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL) and the American Bar Association, and a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice. Beyond the legal community, Tom serves on the board of directors of Liberty Wildlife.
Tom’s exceptional legal work has earned him dozens of accolades, including an AV-Preeminent Rating by Martindale-Hubbell, three “Lawyer of the Year” awards by Best Lawyer in America, Senior Statesman status from Chambers USA, the Tom Karas Criminal Justice Award, and the John J. Flynn Award, the highest award given by Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice.
