Poised to apply a broad level of private-sector executive and community leadership experience that includes nearly 23 years at Arizona Public Service, Arizona’s largest public utility, Flinn Foundation President and CEO Tammy McLeod, Ph.D., has accepted the position of Board Advisor of The Utility Customer Research Consortium (UCRC). Comprised of a blue-ribbon panel of senior executives working together to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation in customer service and customer care, UCRC guides the research agenda of the consortium with a particular focus on customer-facing issues.

“Tammy is without a doubt a valuable addition to the UCRC advisory board,” said Jamie Wimberly, CEO of DEFG, the research and advisory firm that oversees UCRC. “Her deep utility-specific experience combined with her tenure as a CEO with a research-focused organization has provided her a wealth of knowledge and connections that will benefit all UCRC members.”

The role of the UCRC Board of Advisors is to offer thought leadership focused on short-term tactical and operational challenges, provide guidance on the organization’s research agenda, and develop a forward strategic vision for the improvement and innovation in customer service and customer engagement.

“I’m excited to join the UCRC Board of Advisors and have the opportunity to work with such an action-oriented and dynamic group of leaders,” said McLeod. “During my long utility career, I learned how important it is to understand what customers need and apply the appropriate metrics to achieve customer-centric goals. That mindset combined with my passion for environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG), makes this role a perfect fit for my skillset and I look forward to making meaningful contributions.”

Tammy is the President and CEO of the Flinn Foundation, a privately endowed foundation dedicated to improving the quality of life in Arizona to benefit future generations. In this role, she draws upon an executive career that spans tech start-ups to Fortune 1000 companies, deep experience as a community leader and education that spans business and social sciences.

Tammy served nearly 23 years at Arizona Public Service (APS), Arizona’s largest public utility, in several executive positions that culminated with the role of vice president for energy resource management, entailing oversight of the company’s integrated resource plan, energy trading operations, and utility scale solar operations. Previously, as the firm’s chief customer officer, she created a new company model for a customer centric culture and garnered top industry awards for both marketing and customer service.

Tammy’s commitment to the Arizona community has included numerous board appointments, currently including the Arizona Community Foundation; the Desert Botanical Garden (president); and Expect More Arizona (immediate past chair). Prior to joining the Flinn Foundation, she served as a member of Arizona’s Bioscience Roadmap Steering Committee.

Tammy holds a doctorate in sustainability studies. A certified economic developer, she earned her MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
