Walmart Neighborhood Market Coming to Sunnyslope

Walmart December 6, 2013

Walmart today announced plans to revitalize a former retail building in the Marketplace at Central commercial center located at Dunlap and Central Avenue in Phoenix that has been vacant since early 2010. The new Walmart Neighborhood Market will bring affordable groceries to the neighborhood and add to the mix of retail options for area customers. In addition, the store expects to employ 65 associates once it opens.

“We are thrilled to welcome a new Walmart Neighborhood Market to Sunnyslope. We have worked closely with our friends at Marketplace at Central to land this store which will bring new jobs and a wonderful amenity to the neighborhood,” said Vice Mayor Bill Gates. “We are confident that the Neighborhood Market will be a great community partner and successful retailer in Sunnyslope.”

The 43,619-square-foot space will offer quick and convenient shopping with a full grocery department, including organic and natural selections. The store will feature prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, a self-serve deli and a bakery. Both the size of the store and the selections offered are tailored to the community.

“We are excited to join the Sunnyslope community and look forward to providing customers a convenient location for affordable, quality groceries,” said Joshua Phair, Walmart director of public affairs. Construction will begin in a few weeks and grand opening is planned for mid-2014.
