GPEC to Lead Delegation of Valley Mayors to Vancouver to Meet with Business Leaders

GPEC March 7, 2014

Scottsdale Mayor W.J. “Jim” Lane, Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney, and Chandler Vice Mayor Rick Heumann, along with representatives from the Arizona Commerce Authority, will join the Greater Phoenix Economic Council this week as part of a delegation to meet with business leaders in Vancouver for the second Greater Phoenix Road Show.

The inaugural Road Show took place this past December in Silicon Valley, where Valley mayors were able to meet with founders and CEOs of leading businesses in the region.

“The Silicon Valley Road Show was an expertly executed event that provided casual, face-to-face time between GPEC partners and rising technology firms that could enjoy significant locational advantages for business growth in Arizona,” said Mayor W.J. “Jim” Lane. “As a result of our participation, we are already seeing a direct benefit through follow-up prospect visits.”

The upcoming visit will provide an opportunity for business leaders in Vancouver to engage with elected officials from the Greater Phoenix region, to discuss bilateral trade opportunities and to hear why more and more Canadian companies are looking to Arizona as a place to expand operations.

“Arizona already has a budding relationship with Canada through increasing bilateral trade, real estate investments and several companies that have expanded operations here,” ,” said GPEC President & CEO Barry Broome. “Not only does it cost about 40 percent less to operate a company here than in California, but the Greater Phoenix region is easily accessible to several Canadian cities and is a young metropolitan area with promising growth opportunity for businesses.”
