Delta Dental of Arizona Helping Companies Control Healthcare Costs

Delta Dental | December 15, 2018

Since 2008, average family premiums for employer-sponsored health insurance have increased 55 percent—twice as fast as workers’ earnings (26 percent) and three times as fast as inflation (17 percent), according to the Kaiser Family Foundation 2019 Employer Health Benefits Survey. With health care costs rising each year, Delta Dental of Arizona is bending the cost curve by offering a rate pass to clients renewing their pooled group dental plans in 2019.

Current Delta Dental of Arizona clients with 2-199 enrolled employees renewing their dental PPO plan in 2019 will not get an increase in rates and will continue to benefit from the same competitive premium rate they had for another 12 months.

“The cost to provide a robust employee benefits package has increased dramatically over the last two decades,” said Allan Allford, president/CEO at Delta Dental of Arizona. “While much of this increase is due to rising medical insurance premiums, we believe that helping employers contain benefits costs by freezing our dental plan renewal rates is the right thing to do. It aligns well with our mission to promote optimal oral health for all Arizonans.”

Although Delta Dental of Arizona has offered rate passes on a case-by-case basis in the past, this is the first time the state’s largest dental insurer has instituted an across-the-board rate pass on such a large segment of its business.
