Arizona Business and Tourism Groups Partner to Help Promote Arizona through the Lens of its Citizens

Greater Phoenix Economic Council  May 13, 2014

Arizona Commerce Authority, Arizona Office of Tourism, Greater Phoenix Economic Council, Local First Arizona, Mesa Chamber of Commerce and Westmarc announced the launch of MyAZ, a channel that allows Arizonans to help combat stereotypes often associated with the state by utilizing a new mobile app to show the world what it’s truly like to live and work in Arizona.

“We’ve all seen the national headlines associated with Arizona,” GPEC president & CEO Barry Broome said. “But those headlines don’t necessarily represent who we are or what it’s really like to live and work here.Hopefully, this is one avenue in which we can all come together and show the world what a great place this is to be.”

The MyAZ partners have engaged local entrepreneur Caleb Barclay, founder of Splicity, a SEED Spot venture, to help tell these stories. Splicity is a mobile video application enabling users to follow a guided storyline to create videos. These storylines are a series of hashtags in sequential order that give users a template to create their story. For example, MyAZ launches with two storylines – “TheAZLifestyle” and “MyFavFestival.” Arizonans with an iPhone 4 or 5 can download the Splicity app, go to their favorite storyline under MyAZ, create guided videos and then share their video with their social networks.

“Splicity was created for everyday people to tell one-of-a-kind stories in minutes. With that ability, companies can engage their fans to tell their brand story in real-time, activating peer-to-peer marketing on social media.” said Barclay. “In this case, Splicity allows the MyAZ collaborators to tell the story of Arizona through their fans – or rather, those who love Arizona.”

The partnership between the groups is the first of its kind, helping to create a unified voice and encouraging positive promotion of Arizona. Splicity will soon be available to Android users and new features are added daily. Visit the App Store and look up Splicity to begin creating videos today. Or to view some of the videos already created, go to www.splicity.com/MyAZ. For more information about the Splicity app, please contact Emily Mead at 602-256-7700 or emead@gpec.org.
